A wet day in Manchester

 A Big Wheel
It rained all night and was raining in the morning. The forecast said today would be awful and the forecast was 100% accurate! We pondered moving off but decided that another day in Manchester would be infinately preferable, and so after breakfast we walked to the nearest supermarket and re-stocked with food.
 Half a fairly big wheel
There are signs of this area's industrial heritage all around here with beautiful old warehouses and bridges at every turn. We jumped on a tram and headed into the city. We have both loved the trams and are like a couple of excited kids as we stare out of the windows marvelling at being on a train driving down the street! The sales are on and Angela checked out most of them in some detail. We didn't do much in the way of sighseeing since it just didn't stop raining all day.

We enjoyed our final tram trip back to Castlefields and returned to Banjo to dry out and get something to eat. We plan to cast off again in the morning, and will retrace our steps back out of Manchester before heading south on the Bridgewater Canal towards Lymm and Preston Brook where we plan to meet up with some friends.

  1. Hello Banjo Boarders!
Wowwwww!!! I'm very impressed with the photos of Manchester. I love the city...I was first brought up just over a mile outside the city centre.
The Hilton Hotel always reminds me of a tower of Lego bricks for some reason. Quite an extraordinary building. I do believe that the views from the top of the hotel are fantastic. I think there is a restaurant at the top. I remember Thomas's Chop House. In Albert Square where the Town Hall is, a European market is held every Christmas & it's very spectacular. The Trams are quite new...they were replaced in the last year I think. Like you said, it is quite a surreal experience especially the route that goes around the Lowry Centre area. The photo you took of the pub by the river in Leigh is one that Andy & I used to go to when I was living in Leigh...a favourite of ours.
I'm glad you enjoyed the city...shame about the weather but it hasn't been much better here either.
Did you get to watch the Apprentice? We thought it was brilliant tv & was the outcome we were hoping for.
Hope you enjoy Lymm...it's a nice area of Cheshire & also holds childhood memories.

Have fun as you continue your journey!

    Ahoy me hearties!!!!

    Take care,

    Love Lorraine & Andy xxxx
